Mohamad Yunis, Winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace PrizeMr. Yunis has been on the board of Results International for 18 years. He says that he shares the Nobel Prize with Results and that the microcredit movement would not have gotten anywhere near what it is today without Results.
Barb and I completely and enthusiastically endorse the efforts of Results International all around the world.
I have been involved in Results Canada since 2002 and Barb joined early in 2006. In the spring of 2006, we attended the Pacific Northwest Regional Conference here in Victoria. It was a very inspirational gathering. We were particularly impressed with how the Americans and the Canadians, with such completely different political systems, yet sharing such deeply held beliefs and values about human dignity, were able to sit together and brainstorm solutions for the problems our brothers and sisters face, halfway around the world.
About Results
Results is a grass roots—meaning you and me, political organization dedicated to eradicating the worst excesses of poverty around the world:
- Death by starvation;
- Death by preventable disease: mostly malaria, tuberculosis and AIDS;
- Homelessness;
- Lack of education;
- Lack of opportunity.
We do this by writing focused and informed letters about specific solutions:
- Immunizations and disease modifying drugs;
- Malaria bed nets – cheap and effective;
- Microcredit – the provision of small loans to entrepreneurs in the third world – often widows with children;
- Basic education for all – free education at least to the completion of grade six; and
- the direct provision of aid where necessary
Results empowers ordinary citizens to have an effect on their government far in excess of what they would usually have. We do this ourselves by providing ourselves with exactly the right information, at the right time and the with help and training to focus and multiply our efforts.
There are Results Groups in Canada, the U.S.A., Mexico, Germany, Japan, Australia and the UK. If you don’t already have a national group, then perhaps you can start one. We (Leo and Barb) are in the process of assisting the creation a new group in Vancouver, BC, Canada. It is not hard. You can do it too.
